Scenic drives are abundant in
Wilkesboro North Carolina and
neighboring mountain towns, drawing more

 Linville Gorge is a popular scenic
destination of motorcyclists, and is
a short drive from Wilkesboro.
The 19-mile route surrounds the rugged
Linville Gorge. Although the gravel
route is only 19 miles, plan for an
entire day as there are many nearby
hikes leading to rewarding and
spectacular scenery and views. The Gorge
features attractions like Hawksbill
Mountain, Table Rock, and Pisgah
National Forest. Linville Gorge is
ranked among the top 10 scenic
destinations in North Carolina.
Another one of the best motorcycle rides
Western NC begins in Blowing Rock North Carolina,
about a 40-minute commute. The scenic
drive begins in Blowing Rock and
concludes in Roseboro after an
invigorating thrill ride through the
tranquil Pisgah National Forest. The
26-mile paved and gravel road utilizes
back roads in the Pisgah National Forest
and showcases rushing waters, waterfalls
and several small mountain communities.
To the east near Mt. Airy is North
Carolina’s thirteenth most popular
scenic drive. A 24-mile paved road
between Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock
includes prominent remnants of the ancient Sauratown Mountains. These ancient
mountains have eroded over time, and due
to their isolation from the Blue Ridge
are known as the ‘Mountains away from
the Mountains.”
