Skiing
Within an hour's time you can be on the slopes of one of four area Ski Resorts in North Carolina. The High Country features four distinct Ski Areas for your enjoyment. All Resorts offer day and night skiing as well as ski school for children and those who need some guidance.

Appalachian Ski Mountain nestled between Boone and Blowing Rock North Carolina provides guests with a family-friendly atmosphere. The Resort is perfect for both the novice skier as well as expert snowboarders. The Ski Area offers ten slopes including two separate and equally challenging terrain parks. The Ski Area also features an outdoor Ice Skating Rink.

Sugar Mountain is known locally as the resort with the longest runs, the longest being 1.5 miles long. Located in the heart of Banner Elk, the facility offers skiing, snowboarding, tubing, snowshoeing, and ice skating to the public. Sugar Mountain’s 115 skiable acres include 19 slopes and a terrain park. Sugar Mountain is sure to please the skier looking to discover what skiing in the High County is all about.

Hawksnest is also located in Banner Elk. Hawksnest offers 12 slopes and a terrain park among the 25 skiable acres for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities. More than half of the Mountain is tailored to beginner skiers and snowboarders. Although runs like “Top Gun” and “Sock-em Dog” will challenge even the most expert skier.

Beech Mountain is just a short drive from Banner Elk, and the highest ski area in Eastern North America. The Resort offers 9 slopes, a terrain park and ice skating. Located at the center of Beech Tree Village is the 700 square foot Ice Skating Rink. Beech Mountain is ideal for family fun in the snow!
